Check out our link sections below ... You will find good links to virus software for
Macintosh, Linux, and Windows operating systems. Also, before you send that email about a
virus threat or free money from AOL or Bill Gates, make sure that it is not a hoax. We list
several virus and hoax encyclopedias.
Macintosh Anti-virus Software
Clamxav
Specifically designed for the Macintosh OS. Check back later for my evaluation of this product.
Intego
Have not evaluated yet. Need comments from you.
Symantec for the Macintosh
I have not used this product under OSX; but, it was a great product on the earlier versions of the Macintosh OS
Virex
I have friends who are non-computer geeks who swear by the ease of use of this product. Who am I to argue
with them. If it works for you, go for it.
Linux Anti-virus Software
AVG Anti virus Software
Home of AVG for various types of computer operating systems. I rate extremely good except
that email scanner does lose its mind sometimes.
f-Prot
Good Anti virus software. The only one I have found that offers a scanner for a native MS-DOS
environment. Has flavors for several operating systems.
Sophos Anti virus
This manufacturer makes this product for a multitude of operating systems. I have never used but that is not to
say that it ain't good.
Windows Anti-virus Software
AVG Anti virus Software
Home of AVG for various types of computer operating systems. I rate extremely good except that email scanner
does lose its mind sometimes.
f-Prot
Excellent virus scanner. Only product I know of that has a fully functional MS-DOS, (pre-Windows 95 days) version.
PC-Cillin
Once was one of the best products on the market for PC's but would not sell to the general public. Now that selling to
the public, many miscues have been made. Yet, still highly effective.
McAfee
Initially the best virus scanning product on the market. Because of change in ownership and corporate structure,
the company at times has lost its way. But still in the top 10. Also started rating virus scanning products
and truthfully mentioned even when they were not rated as the most effective program.
Symantec
Excellent product for small businesses and corporations. But has a large footprint and can be very intrusive.
But if you want a product that will run on a multiplicity of Windows operating systems seamlessly, you can
not beat Symantec. Engine was developed by Peter Norton, one of the first commercially successful developers of utilities for the
personal computer home consumer market, in the mid 90's.
